The Miami Connection: A Perspective

An evening out at Monty's with my aunt, uncle and cousins. I hadn't seen Daniel (the guy right next to me) since I was about 10 or 11. My mom and I lived with my grandparents in Miami for a while when i was little and every summer my cousins from Colobia would come to visit. Those summers are some of my favorite childhood memories.  It was great to be able to reconnect even if it was a brief visit.
*
My aunt Loli came to visit for a few days as well!
She is my second mother. :)
I hadnt seen her for a few years, since she moved back to Colombia, so it was beautiful to be able to spend an afternoon with her.  Daisy enjoyed it too. :)
*
We hung out with some old friends of mine from Port Charlotte.
Good times :)
*
My brother David (left) and our long time family friend Daniel came by for a day.
*
My sister Jessica and her boy Elijah spent a few days here with us.
The birds LOVE their cousin Eli, can you tell?
:)
*
At my cousin Camille's birthday party.
Daisy walked around telling everyone- Happy Birthday! And Sam stole all the balloons with the intention of setting them all free in to the sky. We fought it at first, but after the 4th or 5th one we just went with it. The joy on his face was priceless, watching those balloons fly away.
*
Memorial Day weekend, and my mom came for a long weekend visit.
After my mom left, Miko laid on the bed where she had slept, the entire day.
*
We found an awesome new park
*
There are kumquat trees all over our neighborhood. Tasty little fruits!
I love his little uniform. So cute.

So many things have just sort of fallen in to place for us since moving here.
There's something about the vibe here. Just feels good.
Perspective maybe?
Maybe I am just a Florida girl at heart.
Either way.

Its sort of a combination of many things.
I love that being here,  i have been able to reconnect with a lot of my family. I think thats one of my favorite aspects actually. Peeps i havent seen since childhood, or at the least in many years. I love that my mom and siblings are only 4 hours away and can just pop in for a weekend visit, or just a day.
I love Liams school.
I love our cookouts.
I love the all the resources for families here.
I love that we get to see J more, since he is able to work some from home.
I love that i can go to my local grocery store and buy arepas and empanadas from the (regular) bakery.
I love our house. And, yeah its too expensive and we're broke most of the time but, what else is new. :) We manage. Perspective, right? lol
I love that i am tan again.
It just feels GOOD here. Thankfully Jason loves it too.
Or else too bad. (lol I kid)
No, but seriously.
The list goes on.

Miami- let me count the ways.

Love and light,
A

Perspective- upward bow :)
:)

Maybe I don't really want to know
How your garden grows
I just want to fly
Lately did you ever feel the pain
In the morning rain
As it soaks it to the bone

Maybe I just want to fly
I want to live I don't want to die
Maybe I just want to breath
Maybe I just don't believe
Maybe you're the same as me
We see things they'll never see
You and I are gonna live forever

Maybe I don't really want to know
How your garden grows
I just want to fly
Lately did you ever feel the pain
In the morning rain
As it soaks it to the bone

Maybe I will never be
All the things that I want to be
But now is not the time to cry
Now's the time to find out why
I think you're the same as me
We see things they'll never see
You and I are gonna live forever
We're gonna live forever
Gonna live forever
Live forever
Forever

I happened to run across your blog. I'm not married, nor do I have kids, but I was a "mother" to two kids with autism for 7 years. It wasn't an easy road and I know the toll it takes on a family.

Just wanted to say hi and welcome you to Miami. Have you been to the CARD Center at UM yet?

All the best,

Hi Judy, thank yo for the welcome. I have not vistiied the center but i ahve used theri website for resources and have actually attended a few autism friendly activities which i found on their site. They are a wonderful organization for autism families. Parent to Parent of Miami has also been a great resource and how i found UMCARD.
Yes, it is a roller coaster ride sometimes but i have to honestly say that it has brought us closer together as a family and has opened my eyes to many things that i would still be in the dark about to this day. Its been a growing and learning experience to say the least. :)
Thanks for paying a visit to my blogs!
All the best,
Alex
